FITNESS & NUTRITION
Fitness
Whilst golf does not require the fitness levels of a premiership footballer or a Wimbledon finalist it still is very influential to the success of the player. At the highest level of the professional game it has become a crucial factor for players to consider.
A common problem in golf today is posture and poor posture in golf often echo’s poor posture in life. With this in mind the MYGA recommends PILATES as a great form of exercise to pursue. The program focuses on the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and which are essential to providing support for the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and aim to strengthen the deep torso muscles. This regime reflects our philosophy in coaching that you have got to get your fundamentals right, what could be more important for golf and life than getting your posture right.
Denise Gillman is a Modern Pilates Advanced Practitioner and Personal Trainer in Core Stability and Postural Alignment. Qualified in Spinning and Boxercise, Denise acts as a consultant to the MYGA and is available for both group and individual sessions and can be contacted by calling 01342 893233 or by e-mailing dgdance100@yahoo.co.uk and quote Mike Yorke Golf Academy. Denise is also a fully qualified dance teacher and is a member of the I.D.T.A.
Nutrition
If you want to achieve that much sought after lower handicap or reduction in scores it is going to be critical to look beyond just your golfing skills. We know that golf is a physical game played over many hours that requires a strong mental attitude and discipline. It is therefore going to be critical that you have the right food to fuel your body and mind.
All too often, players simply use high sugar, low calorie drinks and snacks as part of their daily diet and more often during games. However, in the pursuit of playing better golf, all players need to consider what they eat and drink not only during their games, but also for the 24 hours beforehand.
We have therefore recruited the services of Nutritional Consultant, Suzie Sawyer to act as a consultant for the MYGA. About Suzie Sawyer
